Dismissing House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff’s claims the impeachment inquiry is finding “illicit” actions of President Donald Trump, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said his House counterpart is “full of crap.”
“That statement is full of crap,” Graham told Fox News.
Graham was referring to this Schiff’s statement Wednesday:
“We are getting an increasing appreciation for just what took place during the course of the last year and the degree to which the president enlisted whole departments of government in the illicit aim of trying to get the Ukraine to dig up dirt on a political opponent, as well as further a conspiracy theory about the 2016 election,” Schiff said, per The Hill.
Graham, who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee, added Schiff is not a fair leader of the impeachment inquiry, having already failed in his attempt with special counsel Robert Mueller’s report.
“I don’t trust Adam Schiff to be fair . . . I don’t trust the House Nadler-Schiff team to be fair to be the president,” Graham told Fox News. “This whole process in the House is driven by partisan politicians that hate Trump’s guts.”
Despite the rebuke of his House counterpart, Graham said he would not subpoena Schiff, who might have had unreported contact with the whistleblower before the complaint was filed.
“I’m not going to subpoena a member of the House,” Graham told Fox News. “If they subpoenaed me, I wouldn’t go. We have separate branches of government.”
Graham has invited Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani to testify before the Senate, but he doubts Giuliani will agree to appear.
“I invited him and he hasn’t responded,” Graham said. “He’s the president’s lawyer so I doubt we could actually get him to come unless he volunteered to come.”
