Pete Buttigieg: Trump Would Put US in ’50s, Bernie in ’60s

Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg slammed rival Bernie Sanders in Tuesday’s debate as multiple White House hopefuls piled on the Vermont democratic socialist senator for saying positive things about former Cuban dictator Fidel Castro and other Communist leaders.

“I am not looking forward to a scenario where it comes down to Donald Trump with his nostalgia for the social order of the ’50s and Bernie Sanders with a nostalgia for the revolution politics of the ’60s,” the former South Bend, Indiana, mayor said.

Buttigieg, who has fought to paint himself as the Midwest centrist alternative to the more leftist Sanders and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., would be the first openly gay president if elected.

“We are not going to survive or succeed, and certainly not going to win by reliving the Cold War, and we’re not going to win these critical house and senate races if people in those races have to explain why the nominee of the Democratic Party is telling people to look at the bright side of the Castro regime,” Buttigieg said.
