President Donald Trump is more of “an anti-liberal” rather than a conservative, but he is turning the Democratic party upside down, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said in a new interview.
During an appearance on ABC’s Powerhouse Politics podcast, Gingrich said Trump is breaking the mold.
“Trump is not essentially a conservative. Trump is an anti-liberal. They’re not the same phenomenon,” Gingrich said. “But he may be the most effective uprooter of liberalism in my lifetime.”
As for Trump’s affect on the Republican Party, Gingrich called it “astonishing.”
“Trump sets very large goals and is relentless in moving towards them and, I think, modulates a lot more than people realize and constantly absorbs information and is changing,” Gingrich said.
In a column earlier this month, Gingrich made the case that Democrats could be in trouble in several areas of the country ahead of the November midterms.
And during a recent speech, Gingrich predicted that the midterms will be a big Republican victory.
