ABC News: Trump Lawyers, DA Officials Expected to Meet Next Week

Donald Trump’s attorneys and members of the prosecutor’s office in Fulton County, Georgia, are expected to meet early next week to negotiate terms of the bond package for the former president after his indictment in a 2020 election case, ABC news reported.

Fulton County Democrat District Attorney Fani Willis and a grand jury on Monday indicted Trump and 18 others on felony charges of interfering with the presidential 2020 election.

Defendants have until noon on Aug. 25 to voluntarily turn in themselves for processing.

“It is expected that all 19 defendants named in the indictment will be booked at the Rice Street Jail,” the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Tuesday.

The statement added that the defendants can “turn themselves in at any time” as “the jail is open 24/7.”

Trump’s attorneys and Willis’ team members are expected to meet before Trump surrenders at the Fulton County Jail, ABC News reported Friday.

A Trump spokesperson did not respond to ABC News’ request for comment. A Willis spokesperson declined to comment to ABC News.

Willis said in a proposed scheduling order filed with the court Wednesday that she wants the trial to start March 4.

Trump attorney Lindsey Halligan told Newsmax the case should be removed from the state level and put into federal court, as the indictment he faces is “exactly the type of state interference in a federal official’s duty that the primacy clause of the U.S. Constitution prohibits.”

Halligan told “Wake Up America” that Willis “seems to want this case to be televised, and I’m sure she’s very proud of herself.”

A month ago, the Department of Justice opened an investigation into the Rice Street Jail based on “credible allegations that an incarcerated person died covered in insects and filth; that the Fulton County Jail is structurally unsafe; that prevalent violence has resulted in serious injuries and homicides; and that officers are being prosecuted for using excessive force.”
